Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Francisco CA
514 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

...New AVIATION, MARINE...

.SYNOPSIS...
Issued at 109 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

Cooler temperatures continue tonight, but warmer and drier
conditions begin on Sunday and continue into early next week.
Close to normal temperatures return midweek.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Sunday)
Issued at 109 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

Mostly clear skies leading into the night with pretty light to
moderate winds, as the trough begins to depart to the east making
room for a weak ridge to build. There is a chance for some patchy
low clouds or fog development overnight near Monterey Bay and North
Bay (especially near Napa), but after the early morning hours, clear
skies will return. With the ridging pattern, there will be moments
of offshore winds, which will help facilitate some warmer
temperatures and drier conditions on Sunday. Minimum temperatures
overnight will gradually increase but will remain mostly in the
40s but the noticeable temperature increase will be Sunday. Max
temperatures will rise about 5-15 degrees above normal for the
next couple of days, with inland areas seeing values in the mid
70s to low 80s and coastal areas will see mostly 60s to low 70s on
Sunday. With the uptick in temperatures for Sunday and Monday,
most of inland region is highlighted for minor HeatRisk, for those
who are extremely sensitive to heat.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday night through next Friday)
Issued at 109 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

Dry and warm conditions continue into Monday with a slight uptick in
max temperatures compared to Sunday. Clusters continue to show
agreement of the upper level low forming off the coast of southern
CA on Tuesday allowing for temperatures to gradually decrease to
values that reflect normal seasonal temperatures, especially inland.
With the low pressure forming, there is a chance for increase cloud
cover which will also help temperatures to moderate. Although the
NBM shows less than 10% chance for precipitation over our area on
Wednesday, expect dry conditions to continue through the week as
of now. Models also show another pattern change Friday where
another ridging pattern can possibly bring another weekend of
warmer temperatures. Stay tuned!

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 514 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

Winds stay moderate to gusty before easing in the late evening and
early night. MVFR CIGs build into the night, filling over HAF and
MRY, then SNS later into the night. The North Bay terminals look to
see moments of fog into early Sunday morning, and lasting through
the mid morning. Widespread VFR returns into Sunday afternoon with
moderate to breezy west and northwest winds. However, sea spray looks
to affect visibilities at HAF for much of Sunday.

Vicinity of SFO...VFR through the TAF period. Expect the evening`s
gusty winds to reduce into the early night but remain moderate.
Winds reduce further into the night, becoming light for early
Sunday. West winds will increase again into Sunday afternoon, but
only to moderate speeds before reducing again into that night.

SFO Bridge Approach...Similar to SFO

Monterey Bay Terminals...Winds reduce into the evening for MRY and
in the early night for SNS. MVFR CIGS looks to arrive at MRY in the
first half of the night, but will be much slower to arrive at SNS
(holding off until early Sunday morning. Expect light winds for much
of the night and well into Sunday morning. CIGs clear in the mid to
late morning with moderate west winds building before noon.

&&

.MARINE...
(Tonight through next Friday)
Issued at 514 PM PDT Sat Apr 12 2025

A fresh to strong northwesterly breeze persists over the waters
with gusts to gale force over the outer waters north of Pigeon
Point through late tonight. Northwesterly swell will build 10 to
13 feet at 10 to 11 seconds with moderate seas expected. Winds
begin to diminish and seas subside through Sunday and will persist
into midweek.
